The Christ

Reading: Matthew 16:13-20

“But what about you?” he asked.  “Who do you say I am?”
Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man but by my Father in heaven.” (vv.15-17)

And blessed are we, if we believe that Jesus is the Christ, our Messiah—that is a conviction, and a gift of faith that can only come from God.  Only God can touch our hearts to believe in Jesus—have you had this experience, my friend?  If not, I pray that God will touch your heart—it is glorious and marvellous.

  1. If you look at the sequence, the Christ means Son of God and Son of God means that He was God in the flesh. Son of God refers to being God as seen in John 5:16-18 which says, 16 So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jewish leaders began to persecute him. 17 In his defense Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.” 18 For this reason they tried all the more to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.

Everyone else thought that Jesus was only a prophet as Matthew 16 declares but to believe that Jesus is God came only by God Himself. Peter knew that He was deity based on the Father’s revelation to him. Why do you think false religion all deny Jesus being God because they don’t have the Father but worship a different god.

    Good post.
