Reading: Matthew 14:25-33
“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water” (v.28).
We pray for something, search His Word, ask for signs, get confirmation, and go ahead. And for some reason, in the thick of it all, we suddenly doubt His calling. Why?
Again, let us turn our eyes upon Jesus. Let us not be shaken, but be assured by his steady hand, and again experience his peace.
Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it. – I Thessalonians 5:23-24 (ESV)
Turn Your Eyes upon Jesus
(Helen H. Lemmel, 1922)
O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
O’er us sin no more hath dominion—
For more than conqu’rors we are!
His Word shall not fail you—He promised;
Believe Him, and all will be well:
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!
