What sets us above the rest

Reading: Matthew 5:43-48

“… But I tell you: Love your enemies….” – Matthew 5:44

Jesus asks us what we are doing more than others (v.47), how we distinguish ourselves from the rest. He urges us to be perfect, just as our heavenly Father is perfect (v.48). If the Father is able to cause his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous (v.45), then it is also possible for us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us (v.44). That identifies us as children of God when we emulate the character of our Father in heaven (v.45).
